The Chinese based electronics and media company, StarTimes working in Rwanda keeps helping its clients to be informed but also improves their livelihoods.
Bugesera Residents expressed their gratitude to the Government of Rwanda and the Government of China, and gave their testimonies concerning their current living conditions now that they have access to satellite and television equipment given to them by StarTimes.
Mr. Epimaque says that after being given StarTimes dish and decoder his children found an important tool to learn through. They remain at home watching instructive content from well-resourced TV channels.
“When they come from school they watch TV and even learn some new technologies” he said. He personally benefits from having a Smart TV at home.
“Recently the Minister of health gave some remarks aimed to prevent the Ebola Virus which was present in the neighboring countries Uganda and DRC, these information allowed me to follow those remarks and now I know how I can prevent the propagation of that virus” Mr. Epimaque added.
The executive secretary of Nyamata Sector in Bugesera District in East Province, Mr. Innocent has said that having televisions facilitated the local authorities to change people’s lives through different programs they watch on television such as Irrigation and land use consolidation programs.
“In the sector of sport, we have been facing challenges of insuring security of our people while a lot of them would gather in the same place (shaving Saloons, Public offices) to watch national or international Matches, but today different families own TV screens through this program and help their neighbors” He underlined.
He said that people are thankful for the cooperation between Rwandan government and the Chinese government that bears positive fruits namely social and economic development for Rwandans.
He said he believes that this partnership will bring many more opportunities to enhance the welfare of citizens,” He added.
Rwanda and China have long lasting ties that were sustained for many years, these ties have been given a boost recently with the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping in Rwanda and the one the Rwandan President Paul Kagame has made in China in recent years.
Speaking to journalist at Bugesera District headquarters, the Vice Mayor for Economic Development, Angelique Umwali said.
“Today there is a lot of feedback from the residents about the TV penetration program that was launched last year. Our people today have access to TV and access to information on national and international events and, programs that have educated and informed them hence increasing their awareness and knowledge to improve their welfare”.
Through StarTimes Company, Bugesera District was given over 200 decoders with antennas, some were given to residents and others were distributed at sector offices and 15 decoders with projectors were given to healthy centers.
The number of citizens who benefited from the project in Rwanda is 6,000 individual households in 300 villages in Rwanda connected to satellite television service composed of a satellite dish, a high definition set-top box and accessories while 900 public institutions are connected through a satellite projector TV system and 32’’ TV sets.
